POSITION: Deputy Project Director, National Center on Domestic Violence & Firearms

Organization: The Battered Women’s Justice Project is a national resource center on the civil and criminal justice systems’ responses to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Under federal grants from DHHS and DOJ, BWJP assists jurisdictions around the country seeking to improve victim safety and offender accountability in domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking cases. Position: Deputy Project Director, National Center on DV & Firearms, full-time

                   Reports to the Project Director

Location: Minneapolis, MN. Telecommuting is not allowed for this position.

Primary Function: The Deputy Project Director assists in the management of the resource center on domestic violence and firearms to promote policies and practices that effectively implement DV-related restrictions on access to firearms and participates in other activities related to improving the overall criminal justice response to crimes of violence against women. S/he will analyze emerging research, policies and practices, engage in national conversations on these issues, and develop articles and papers on emerging responses and practices. S/he will develop and conduct relevant trainings around the country and provide technical assistance to a wide range of professionals and advocates.

Responsibilities:

1. Support the Director of the National Resource Center on DV & Firearms in meeting the center’s objectives and facilitate the growth and expansion of the center.
2. Develop and conduct local, regional or national trainings, presentations, and webinars for a variety of audiences.
3. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with partners, grantees and relevant systems professionals.
4. Write or contribute to articles on related topics for BWJP’s newsletter and website as assigned.
5. Communicate regularly with OVW grantees to assess their TA needs and priorities, and provide individual consultation to grantees on issues arising in their community’s handling of DV/SA cases.
6. Consult with other allied organizations or government agencies on related local or national projects, upon request.
7. Keep accurate records on technical assistance activities for mandatory progress reports submitted to funders.
8. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications Required:

1. Experience in justice system reform work related to violence against women preferred.  Specific policy work related to firearms and domestic violence desired.
2. Related education in public policy, macro-level social work, criminal justice studies, women’s studies or law.
3. Ability to apply critical thinking and an intersectional analysis to identify and promote equitable and effective policies and practices.
4. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to issues of cultural diversity as they pertain to prevention, intervention, and services, as well as to addressing the needs of underserved communities.
5. Substantial experience in developing and conducting training events; experience with training justice personnel and advocates desirable.
6. Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation.
7. Demonstrated, exceptional oral communication and writing skills.
8. Ability to work well with diverse groups and effectively as part of a team.
9. Willingness and ability to travel nationwide on a regular basis.
