Pro Bono Supervisor-Full Time

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a full-time supervisor for its Minneapolis office as part of
the Pro Bono Unit. The Pro Bono Unit connects MMLA clients to volunteer attorneys for legal advice
and/or representation in a variety of matters including tax, family law, and wills. The Pro Bono
Supervisor will also coordinate MMLA’s legal clerkships and summer law student fellowships. This
position is exempt and will start as soon as possible after an offer is extended.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 Apply the principles of MMLA’s Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions.
 Supervise up to two legal assistants.
 Craft internal pro bono policies and engage in long-term planning.
 Work with MMLA’s supervising attorneys, development team, and deputy directors to identify
and cultivate pro bono program priorities.
 Develop and maintain relationships with law firm pro bono coordinators.
 Develop and maintain relationships with law school internship, externship, and fellowship
coordinators.
 Conduct outreach to law students and attorney volunteers.
 Onboard, train, and mentor volunteers.
 Maintain volunteer database and record volunteer hours.
 Support volunteers through recognition initiatives and events.
 If the supervisor is a licensed attorney, provide limited legal advice and representation to pro
bono clients.
 Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications: 
 Must have at least three years of experience coordinating a volunteer program.
 Demonstrated interest in and commitment to the needs of people with low incomes and other
vulnerable clients.
 Commitment to working as a team member to serve clients’ needs.
 Ability to mentor volunteer attorneys and law students to achieve excellent representation of
clients.
 Excellent analytical skills and written and verbal communication skills.
 Experience using Microsoft Office and electronic databases.
 Strong organizational skills and program development skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
 Active law license.
 Experience supervising staff preferred, especially direct supervision of legal work.
 Legal training, knowledge of community resources, and experience with case management
software.

 Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences.
 Language proficiency, especially in Arabic, Hmong, Oromo, Somali, or Spanish.


SALARY:  $49,653 to $74,155 per year, depending on experience and law license, plus benefits.
