The Office is currently seeking an attorney to represent the Office and State agencies in transactional matters. The focus of the position will be on: (1) advising clients on State contracting statutes; (2) negotiating, reviewing, and drafting contracts for the Office and agency clients; (3) overseeing the work of outside counsel on the issuance of State bonds; (4) general advice to agency clients on statutory and administrative rules issues. This position has may also provide advice to agency clients on trademark and copyright issues.
The attorney will practice within a cohort of attorneys housed in the Environmental and Natural Resources Division of the Office. The transactional cohort has a very diverse practice, with no close analog in private practice. The division seeks attorneys who can excel at practicing in new areas.
This position is eligible for hybrid work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA
- Actively licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota
- 2 years of relevant transactional practice experience
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills (a writing sample of up to five pages is required with application submission)
- Experience using electronic files and case management tools
- Ability to:
- multitask by managing an active caseload and meeting tight deadlines
- interact and work with a diverse set of clients and members of the public, with a diverse set of needs
- work in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative work environment while contributing positively to a team

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (Legal Aid) is seeking a paid, part-time law clerk for its Minneapolis office as part of its immigration law unit. The ILP provides legal representation to clients in a full range of immigration contexts including removal work, adjustment of status, applications for citizenship and VAWA-based cases including U and T visas. We receive funding from several government and private sources and enjoy a close relationship with immigrant-led community organizations. ILP works closely with other units within MMLA to provide holistic legal services. This position will start as soon as possible after an offer is extended.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Dedicate yourself to the principles of Legal Aid's Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions.
• Client communication and follow up to gather necessary information
• Collect evidence and related documents for cases
• Work on case assistance projects for Staff Attorneys, including client
• correspondence, country conditions research, and organizing filings
• If applicable, research applicable law for cases and draft memos, briefs, and • motions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ Be in second year or beyond of law school
▪ Be available to serve as a clerk during the summer and fall of 2024, preferred ▪ Experience in immigration law, preferred
▪ Commitment to working as a team member to serve clients' needs.
▪ Proficiency using Microsoft Office required.

The Public Safety Division serves an important role within the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General. Lawyers in the Public Safety Division represent the Commissioner of Public Safety on matters involving implied consent, revocations, forfeitures, and title matters; provide advice, counsel and representation to several boards; and respond to citizen inquiries. The work includes frequent court appearances including evidentiary hearings/trials in district court and before the Office of Administrative Hearings, appellate advocacy, and other civil litigation.
The successful applicant will be able to:
- prepare matters for trial, including motions, witness preparation, and discovery;
- appear in court remotely and in person;
- draft post-hearing legal memorandum and appellate briefs;
- manage a large and dynamic case load and discovery;
- advise clients and boards;
- respond to citizen inquiries.
This position requires travel to counties throughout the state.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment.
Minimum Qualifications

Commission on Judicial Selection Opens Application Process for Vacancies in the Third Judicial District

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, the Commission on Judicial Selection announced two vacancies in Minnesota’s Third Judicial District. The vacancies will occur upon the retirement of the Honorable Joseph F. Chase and the Honorable Mary C. Leahy. These seats will be chambered in Rochester in Olmsted County and Winona in Winona County.
The application process is now open for these vacancies. The commission is searching for fair, experienced, and civic-minded individuals to serve on the bench and offer their talents and services to Minnesota’s judicial system. Per statute, the commission will consider the following qualifications for judicial office: integrity, maturity, health (if job related), judicial temperament, legal knowledge, ability, experience, and community service. The commission is seeking applicants who reflect Minnesota’s full diversity.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The City of Bloomington is seeking an individual to act as the City's legal representative in prosecuting gross misdemeanors, misdemeanors, and petty misdemeanors, as well as to provide legal advice and services to City police officers and investigators in an effective and timely manner as assigned.

The Saint Paul City Attorney's Office is a premier public law office of 90-plus legal professionals and support staff practicing in all areas of municipal law including criminal prosecution, civil litigation, municipal governance, contract and procurement, code and licensing enforcement, planning and zoning, real estate, and economic development.
The Saint Paul City Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications for a full-time, senior assistant city attorney position in its Civil Division. Duties will primarily include civil transactional and regulatory work and may also include litigation or other work as assigned.
Information Specific to this Position:
This position performs wide-ranging, expert level, highly-complex professional legal work in the Civil Division. The worksite for this position is at the St. Paul City Attorney's Office located in downtown Saint Paul. While some telework may be possible upon approval of the City Attorney, this position is not a remote position.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Provides general legal services and expert legal advice to the City Council, the Mayor’s Office, various City departments, divisions, offices, authorities, boards, commissions and committees.
Staffs meetings of the Saint Paul City Council, Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Planning Commissions and other various boards and commissions of the City.
Drafts ordinances, resolutions, rules and policies.
Prepares legal opinions or memoranda.
Drafts and negotiates contracts, which may include real estate documents such as development agreements, easements, deeds, restrictive covenants, subordination agreements, leases, and loan and grant agreements. Advises on Federal, State and City compliance requirements.
Represents the City of Saint Paul and its various departments, boards, and commissions in administrative cases and related matters.
Plans, organizes, mentors, and leads the work of other employees in varying positions within the Civil Division as requested by the City Attorney, Deputy City Attorney, or Supervising Attorney.

About the Position
Positions in this class perform a wide variety of very complex professional legal work at the full performance level in the City of Saint Paul City Attorney's Office to include representing the City and City employees in civil litigation, and providing general legal services to various City departments, divisions, offices, authorities, boards, commissions and committees; and performs related duties as required.
Information Specific to this Position:
This position involves litigation of a wide range of civil actions including civil rights, land use, contracts, employment and various tort claims. The successful candidate must:
Conduct legal analysis of standard and complex civil actions initiated against the City of Saint Paul, city employees and elected officials.
Develop sustainable litigation strategies for a variety of pending and threatened civil actions.
Represent the City of Saint Paul, city employees and elected officials through all phases of civil litigation in state and federal district and appellate courts.

Job Summary

The Office is currently seeking a Assistant Attorney General in the Post-conviction Justice Division (PCJD) of the Office. The lawyer’s primary caseload will involve conducting comprehensive review of criminal convictions in cases involving cannabis convictions that come before the Cannabis Expungement Board (CEB). The lawyer will obtain and review conviction records, conduct further investigation as necessary, and make recommendations regarding expungement or resentencing. The lawyer will determine whether a conviction or stay of adjudication is eligible for an expungement or resentencing to a lesser offense and whether such action would create a risk to public safety. The work will include attending at least monthly meetings of the Cannabis Expungement Board. In addition, the lawyer will assist the CEB in legal issues related to its formation, functions and operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA and licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire
- Three years of criminal litigation experience as a prosecutor or public defender
- Excellent research and writing skills (a cover letter with writing sample is required with application submission)
- Ability to:
- Exercise good judgment
- Manage a high caseload and coordinate multiple projects at once
- Contribute positively to a team and interact successfully with clients, members of the public, and other stakeholders
- Work in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative work environment
